Served as automatic rifleman with the 357th Infantry in the European Theater of Operations. Used rifle and other hand weapons to capture or destroy enemy personnel and positions. Nine months after landing on Utah Beach on D-Day, wounded. Spent the next three years undergoing re-constructive surgery in Valley Forge Hospital.
