Activity During WWII

Entered service on March 7, 1941. Volunteered in the New Mexico National Guard which was the 200th Coast Anti-Aircraft Artillery. Arrived in the Philippines in September 1941. Was at Clark Field when the bombs came down on December 7, 1941. Was taken prisoner by the Japanese at the surrender of Bataan. Was prisoner for 15 months before escaping on July 3, 1942 at which time, joined the Philippine guerillas. Was wounded while ambushing the Japanese March 29, 1944 -- caught a bullet which severed the ulna nerve in arm. Was barefoot for 8 months while with the guerillas. June 1944, was rescued by the submarine Crevalle and arrived home on birthday July 16, 1944.
