With the 11th Infantry, 5th Division, in the Army. He was among the first troops to go to Iceland in November 1942. He was stationed in Ireland and England and in July of 1944 crossed the channel to France. He received the Expert Infantryman's Badge on August 20, 1944. Killed in action on October 11, 1944.
