Enlisted in the Navy July 1943. He went through basic training in San Diego where he trained on a Submarine and Amphibian Landing Craft. He served on both the USS Cape Sandy and the USS Mormachawk, a ship owned by the McCormack Spice Company. He spent time in the South Pacific, Philippines and New Guinea. He was discharged December 5, 1945.
