Served in 45th Infantry Division, 157th Regiment, Company L, 3rd Platoon in Africa, Sicily and Italy from September 1942 through October 1945. Was captured by German troops near Anzio, Italy. Held as POW for 15 months, working on farms in Italy. Liberated by U.S. troops in 1945 and picked up by U.S. observation plane. Later sent to La Havre, France for processing. Returned home on Liberty ship in 1945.
