Drafted into the Army and left Atlantic, Iowa, on August 5, 1943. Following 4 months of basic training at Fort Riley in Kansas, he was sent to Italy where he engaged in combat. He was a member of Company B, 168th Infantry. He was killed in action on Anzio Beachhead May 29, 1944. Awarded the Purple Heart.
