Activity During WWII

Enlisted August 1942 at Fort McPherson in Atlanta, Georgia. Assigned to Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment at Camp Toccoa, Georgia. Received basic parachute and infantry training at Camp Toccoa and Fort Benning, Georgia. On fifth jump lost three fingers of left hand. Continued parachute infantry training at Camp Mackall, North Carolina. Further training with 101st Airborne Division in England prior to Combat Jump in Normandy on D-Day with the machine gun platoon of Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment. Wounded and evacuated June 7, 1942. In September 1944, made Combat Jump with the S-2 section, Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment in Holland. In November 1944, was transferred to U.S. by medics. Finished military duty as Jump Master in the parachute school at Fort Benning Georgia. Discharged in November 1945 with rank of Private First Class. Received Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Combat Infantryman Badge, Parachute Wings, European Theater of Operations and Good Conduct Medal.
