Enlisted in the U.S. Navy Reserve at age 36, on August 27, 1942 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was stationed at the Naval Air Station, Norman, Oklahoma. He shipped out to San Diego, California November 27 1944 and boarded the USS Tripoli CVE-64 January 5, 1945. On January 11th the ship arrived at Pearl Harbor. He was transferred to the USS Duxbury Bay AVP-38 March 24th. While aboard ship they cruised to the Marshall Islands, Guam, the Caroline Islands and ported in Okinawa August 29, 1945. He returned to San Francisco, Treasure Island September 22nd and was honorably discharged from the Navy in Norman, Oklahoma September 30, 1945.
