Served aboard the USS Louisville CA-28. Served in the 7th fleet as part of the bombardment group in the Pacific. Flagship of the 7th fleet was hit by kamikaze planes 3 times, one of which killed Admiral Theodore Chandler in the Battle of Lingayen Gulf. Also participated in battles of Leyte Gulf and on the islands of Peleliu, Tarawa, Saipan, Guam, Okinawa and Tinian. Served in the Aleutian islands.
