Activity During WWII

82nd Airborne Division, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, Company A. One of the early parachutists, qualified in August 1941. Parachuted into Normandy on D-Day night on June 5, 1944. Captured on June 8, 1944 and interned in Stalag III C. Near Kustrin on the Oder River in Eastern Germany. Repatriated by advancing Russian troops on January 31, 1945. Instrumental in bringing some 40 fellow prisoners of war to freedom through Warsaw, Poland across the U.S.S.R. to Odessa Russia on the Black Sea and on to Naples, Italy.
