27th Bomb Group, 17th Squadron; Philippine Islands, Bataan. When fighting started, soldiers were attached to 31st provisional Infantry. Was wounded and stayed in a field hospital following surgery when Bataan fell. Captured by the Japanese and forced to make the famous Bataan Death March. Later held for 1,248 days as a Japanese POW. Survived hell ships and the copper mines in Osaka, Japan.
