Was in the 3rd Armored Spearhead Division. Landed in France, crossed France into Belgium and into Germany. Tank was hit by German mortar near Siegfried line. Lost one leg and one wounded, was picked up by medics and went to Belgium for temporary treatment. Was flown to England where other leg was removed, flown to Walter Reed Hospital in U.S. When healed was fitted with artificial limbs. Was awarded the Purple Heart.
