On December 6, 1941, he recognized his brother among a group of Army soldiers and scheduled a meeting for the next morning. He was still onboard the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Taney in her Pearl Harbor berth across from the USS Arizona when the Japanese attack began. The Taney went to sea, to patrol the harbor and engaged with Japanese planes for the duration of the attack. Miller did not see his brother again until the end of the war. Married me, Ensign Helen Barbara Kuticka, a Navy Nurse on February 7, 1945.
