Drafted in February 1941 and was assigned to the Army's 14th Horse Cavalry before being transferred to the 40th Engineers Unit where served as a demolition expert for the duration of the war until discharge on September 1, 1945. Was sent to North Africa after Pearl Harbor and followed the campaign into Sicily, Italy and Germany. Fought at Anzio and Battle of Bulge. Helped to liberate Dachau. Was wounded in action but refused the Purple Heart.
