Served as a repair and executive officer on the USS Midas ARB-5 repair ship in the Philippine Campaign, mainly in Leyte Gulf. With repair crew from ship working on damaged destroyer in floating dry back when hit by Kamikaze. Worked on numerous damaged ships including Hmas Australia, flagship of the Australian navy in New Guinea area.
