31st Infantry Division on Bataan, where his unit won the Presidential Unit citation with two Oak leaf clusters. Captured by the Japanese and survived the famous Bataan Death March. He was a prisoner of war and at war's end, was at Camp 3, Fukuoka, Kyushu, where he was a slave laborer in the Steel Mills. He returned home from war with the Pre-Pearl Harbor ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific ribbon, Philippine Defense ribbon, Combat Infantryman Badge and Presidential Unit citations.
