ENLISTED AND ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE ON JULY 24, 1942 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS TO SERVE FOR THE DURATION OF THE NATIONAL EMERGENCY YEARS. AFTER BOOT CAMP, QUALIFIED AS A RIFLE SHARPSHOOTER AND TRAINED IN THE SPECIAL MILITARY QUALIFICATION OF FIELD TELEPHONE MAN. ASSIGNED TO 18TH MARINE REGIMENT, 2ND MARINE DIVISION, FLEET MARINE FORCE AND SERVED IN THE ASIATIC-PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS FROM NOVEMBER 6, 1942 TO OCTOBER 23, 1944. FOUGHT IN ACTION AGAINST THE ENEMY IN THE GUADALCANAL, TARAWA, SAIPAN AND TINIAN CAMPAIGNS. EARNED THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL, THE PRESIDENTIAL UNIT CITATION WITH ONE BRONZE STAR, THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, THE ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH FOUR BRONZE BATTLE STARS AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A CORPORAL ON OCTOBER 18, 1945 AT THE DEPOT OF SUPPLIES, U.S. MARINE CORPS, SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
