Enlisted in the U.S. Navy on August 12, 1940. Assigned to the USS New Mexico then transferred to the USS Northampton. Participated in the Marshall Gilbert Raid, Wake Island Raid, Tokyo Raid, Marcus Raid, Battle of Midway, Battle of Santa Cruz. Also participated in the Battle of Lunga Point on December 1, 1942. The crew of the Northampton abandoned ship and Adrian was picked up by a PT boat after 8 1/2 hours in the water. Sent to Oak Knoll Naval Hospital in Oakland, California. Later served aboard the USS Calamares. Discharged March 1, 1945.
