Served on the USS Philadelphia CL-41 'Galloping Ghost' light cruiser in Atlantic convoy. Received the Victory Medal and three Battle Stars for North Africa, Algeria. Served in Italy and Sicily campaigns and in the Southern France invasion. While on the USS Philadelphia CL-41 escorted President Truman to the 'Big Three Conference'. Returned to Boston to refit the USS Philadelphia CL-41. Was injured during the refitting process and recuperated at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital. Upon recovery was reassigned to the USS Texas BB-35 battleship. Received an honorable discharge in Personnel Service Center, Lido Beach, Long Island, New York. Brothers also served.
