Served in Navy from December 13, 1922 to December 31, 1941. Attacked by Japanese when struck in the back by shrapnel and died a few hours later. He left his widow and 2 children in the Philippines. He died not knowing that his wife and children were prisoners of war. He served aboard the USS Heron AVP-2.
