Activity During WWII

Enlisted in the Navy from Vernon County, Wisconsin on August 18, 1942. Basic training at Great Lakes, Illinois. Graduated from Navy Pier as Aviation Metalsmith. Completed gunner's course at Jacksonville, Florida and served in the African Theater of Operations before a short leave in August 1943. Transferred to Dunkeswell, England, 7th Fleet Air Wing and was killed in a plane crash while in action on October 23, 1943. Buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri. Was a tail gunner on patrol-bomber plane 105.
