He was a member of the first pilot aircrew graduating class in Sanford, Florida on March 16, 1943. He was killed in a U.S. Navy airplane crash at sea on July 10, 1943 while serving his country. His name appears on a memorial plaque at Dupont Company in Seaford, Delaware. He was last stationed in Pensacola, Florida.
