Served in the Sonar division aboard the USS Brown DD-546, from 1943 to 1945. The only major operation which he missed, from Gilbert Islands through Okinawa, was the battle of Iwo Jima. He was in Seattle, Washington for much needed repair and overhaul at that time. Survivor of the 'Halsey Typhoon' in December 1944 before returning for overhaul.
