Enlisted in 1943 in the U.S. Naval Reserve as an Engineer Officer. In the Civil Engineering Corps with the 7th Naval Construction Battalion, the U.S. Navy Seabees. As a Lieutenant Junior Grade, his final tour of duty was in Okinawa and included the road design, layout and also the warehouse and ship loading dock construction. He received the American Campaign Medal, WWII Medal, Bronze Star, Asiatic Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, U.S. Navy Commendation Medal, and the Navy Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon.
