ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON FEBRUARY 8, 1944 AT FORT SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS. AFTER TRAINING AS A FIELD LINEMAN (MOS 641), JOINED THE 232ND FIELD ARTILLERY BATTALION, 42ND INFANTRY (RAINBOW) DIVISION AT CAMP GRUBER, OKLAHOMA. DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON JANUARY 6, 1945 AND ENTERED COMBAT IN VICINITY OF LUTZELSTEIN, FRANCE ON FEBRUARY 17, 1945. FOUGHT IN FRANCE, GERMANY AND AUSTRIA THROUGH THE RHINELAND AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. AFTER V-E DAY, RETURNED TO THE U.S. AND STATIONED AT FORT BRAGG, NORTH CAROLINA. AWARDED THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 2 BRONZE BATTLE STARS, WWII VICTORY MEDAL AND THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A PRIVATE 1ST CLASS ON APRIL 25, 1946.
