Drafted, then inducted into the U.S. Army on July 18, 1945. Basic training was at Camp Wolters, Texas. After basic training, took the opportunity to re-enlist, knowing that he would only have to serve one year. He was sent to New York, boarded a ship which sailed on March 16, 1946 for Germany. Assigned to the 51st Constabulary Squadron on Occupational Status. Assigned to General Headquarters for 2 months. Later stationed on the German and Austrian border where duty of Constabulary was to patrol and keep illegals from attempting to cross. Next assigned was to Breitenberg, Germany for 3 months; part of duties was to raid ships on the Danube River looking for black market goods. Separated on February 13, 1947 at Fort Dix, New Jersey.
