Activity During WWII

Army Air Corps B-24 Tail gunner, tail number 64. He was the Tail gunner aboard B-24J Liberator #42-78605, serving with the 743rd Bomb Squadron, 455th Bomb Group, U.S. Army Air Forces. Immediately after releasing bombs over the target at the oil refineries of Blechhammer, Kedzierzyn-Kozle, southwestern Poland, his Liberator took a direct flak hit and the aircraft broke in two. HE PARACHUTED OUT AND WAS taken as PRISONER. HE WAS A PRISONER OF WAR FOR for 8 months; Stalag Luft 4 Gross-Tychow, Pomerania, Prussia. He was moved to Wobbelin Bei Ludwigslust and then to Usedom Bei Savenmunde. Returned to Military, liberated.
