Activity During WWII

Landed with the 5th Army, Anti-Aircraft Artillery as a 50 caliber Machine Gunner in North Africa, after nearly 2 weeks on the seas. Sent to Tunisia, Sicily, Salerno, Cassino and Rome. Seriously wounded in action on August 1, 1944 in Pisa, Italy. Found a cave where he and his buddies stayed that night. The next day they sent young Italian boy and with a message to the Americans. They were rescued that night. Returned to the U.S. on the Hospital Ship, Blanche F. Sigman. When they reached New York Harbor, he was raised up from his bed to see the Statue of Liberty. Received the Purple Heart.
