Submarine Service 1943-1945. On the 2nd patrol of the USS Tirante SS-420. Spent time in Hawaii, on Guam and in the Pacific off Japan. A highlight of his patrol occurred when submerged off Nomo Saki on June 11, 1945 when the USS Tirante sunk a 2300 ton Japanese cargo ship carrying coal, a vital commodity to Japan at the end of the war.
