One of the first 1,000 Houston volunteers to join the U.S. Navy to replace the crew of the USS Houston Cruiser that had been lost during the Battle of the Sea of Java in 1942. Basic training in San Diego, California. Stationed in Japan, Alaska, San Francisco, California, Seattle, Washington. In the Civilian Conservation Corps in Carlsbad Caverns, New Mexico before enlisting in the Navy. Member of the U.S. Coast Guard and Woodmen of the World.
