Basic at Great Lakes; motor torpedoman at Pier 92, New York City. Squadron sent to the South Pacific. Removed from squadron at Panama Canal, Balboa side. Placed in base machine shop for 19 months. Received commendation for repairing oil cooler pump from submarine even though stated that it could not be repaired. Sent to New Orleans as a plank card owner on new ship, the USS Woodford AKA-86. Was in Tokyo Bay during the signing of the armistice with Japan.
