Activity During WWII

Commissioned in February 1943, after receiving a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Detroit. He received training as a radar officer at Harvard and MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) before going on to further training in radar techniques at Naval Air Technical Training Center at Ward Island near Corpus Christi, Texas. After additional training with the 78th Night Fighter Squadron, he was assigned to the USS Intrepid, Pacific fleet in June 1944. While serving in the Pacific, he survived 3 kamikaze attacks. Following hits, he reported to the Bureau of Aeronautics, Navy Department in Washington, D.C., until he was released to inactive duty. He maintained reserve status, eventually retiring as a Lieutenant Commander in July 1963. He was a founding member of the Officer's Christian Union, which is now the Officer's Christian Fellowship.
