Received the Silver Star, Bronze Star and the Purple Heart; Battlefield Commission in North Africa after Field Marshall Rommel and German soldiers over ran artillery battalion and all the officers died. As highest Non-Commissioned Officer, assumed command. He and his men held off the Germans. Brigadier General Benjamin Davis commissioned him in the field. After the allied victory in North Africa, was in the Battle at Anzio Beach, the Battle of the Bulge and the Bridge of Remagen. In occupied Germany at the end of the war.
