Served in Field Artillery, training to Sergeant Classification office; transferred to the Air Corps, 8th Air Force, 44th Bomb Group. Qualified in Air Corps Officer Candidate School (OCS) as an aerial bombardier and navigator. Served as a navigator with the 392nd Bomb Group, as a pathfinder navigator over the European Theatre of Operations. Awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. After the surrender of Japan, transferred to the Air Force Reserve.
