Activity During WWII

Served as a bombardier on a B-24 for the U.S. Army Air Corps. Lieutenant Bauer was enlisted on September 21, 1942 in his hometown of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was commissioned on May 20, 1944. Served in the European Theater from October 7, 1944 to April 10, 1945. He was stationed at Cerignola, Italy with the 756th Bomb Squadron, 459th Bomb Group, of the 15th Air Force. He flew 35 Sorties in the Battles of Rome-Arno, Rhineland, Central Europe, Air Offensive Europe, and North Apennines for which he received the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 5 Bronze Service Stars. He was honorably discharged on October 9, 1945 from Fort Bliss, Texas.
