Graduated from Officer Candidate School at Quantico, Virginia 1943. Joined the 1st Marine Division in the South Pacific shortly afterward. Commanded I Company, 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment on Okinawa. Seriously wounded in the battle for Wana Ridge. Received the Bronze Star for Valor. Became an Aide-de-Camp to the Commanding General in 1946 while still recuperating. Resigned his commission 1947. In reserves for 7 years.
