38th Task Force, 3rd Fleet. Served in the South and Southwest Pacific on a fleet oiler, the USS Pamanset AO-85, and in the Battle of the Philippine Sea. He participated in the invasion, including the Philippines, Peleliu, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. In the China Sea and endured Kamikaze attacks. On the day the war ended, he was 50 miles outside of Tokyo Harbor, heading in with the fleet.
