Gunner's mate on Merchant Marine ship in Admiralty Islands, Guam. Was in one air attack in Iran in Red Sea. Was on landing craft going onto beaches; secured these beaches. Also watched over Japanese prisoners of war and took soldiers to Brig (those awaiting court martial and other trouble). Retired with reserve and regular Navy with 33 years of service as Boatswain's Mate 1st Class. Was in Navy Reserves Fleet Reserve Unit 106 and Reserve Unit 111. Reserve unit out of Toledo, Ohio. Was 17 years old when first enlisted.
