Enlisted August 16, 1940. After Boot Camp, sent to Army Air Forces Teletype School. Was trained to test, repair and maintain all equipment used to indicate and record conditions regarding the weather in a weather squadron. Assigned to 2nd Weather Squad, Bluie West, #2, Greenland. Promoted to Technical Sergeant after leaving Greenland and later to Master Sergeant. In July 1943, assigned to 21st Weather Squadron in Scotland. Chosen to set up communication systems allowing front line access to the command headquarters. Received Bronze Star and Theater Ribbons with clusters.
