Enlisted January 23, 1943 and reported to construction battalion Seabee boot camp at Camp Peary in Williamsburg, Virginia. July 1943 transferred to Headquarters Company, 12th Naval Construction Battalion Supply Depot and promoted to Storekeeper 3rd Class. July 1944, accepted into V-12 Naval Supply Operating Training Program. Attended two terms at DePauw University then transferred to Naval Supply Depot, Bayonne, New Jersey to attend Advance/Pre-Midshipman Instruction. April to September 1945, stationed at Naval Supply Corps School, Soldiers Field, Harvard University and commissioned Assistant Paymaster, Ensign, Supply Corps in December 1945. Transferred to Naval Reserve.
