Combat Front Line, European Theater of Operations. 5 Battle Stars, Infantry Badge, Bronze Star. 1st Army attached to 27th Division and 29th Division; Infantry attached with Ranger Battalion on D-Day, Normandy. Received the Silver Star, 2nd Battalion Rangers, for being in charge of a 24-man attachment, going into bomb shelters where 5 of his men were killed, and he was attacked. Bombed the shelter because several German troopers decided to stay and not come out. Played football for the All Stars Professional team in Brussels, Belgium. His detachment was run over by German troopers in the Battle of the Bulge. General Patton saved his troops from being taken prisoner.
