Activity During WWII

Pilot in the China-Burma-India theater. Served as a Flying Sergeant and co-pilot on C-47 Sky train, transport planes, safely delivering General 'Stump' Merrill's Marauders and supplies over the deadly 'Hump' Himalayan mountain chain against enemy positions. Also co-piloted B-25 'Billy Mitchell' bombers in raids against enemy positions and troop trains. Survived a crash behind enemy lines when his plane's engines failed, rescued by an allied patrol before the enemy found the crash and crew. Received Good Conduct and Victory medals, campaign ribbons for service in the American and Asiatic-pacific Theaters, and was Honorably Discharged, January 1946.
