Naval Aviator. Served aboard the USS Saratoga CV-3, USS Ranger CV-4, USS Wasp CV-18 and several escort carriers in both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Attached to 81st Air Group; based in Atlantic City, New Jersey; Otis Field in Cape Cod, Massachusetts; Maui, Hawaii. 'Hellcats' were launched at the same time to protect Task Force; assigned mission against Japan's Anti-Aircraft Training Center. Crash landed into the water 10 miles north of northeast tip of Formosa. Taken prisoner; 5 months in solitary confinement, blindfolded.
