Served as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne in Ardennes, Normandy, Central Europe, Rhineland and in the Battle of the Bulge in Bastogne. Received the American Service medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Service medal, with bronze star and arrowhead, the Good Conduct medal and the WWII Victory medal. Inducted on November 27, 1942. Went overseas September 5, 1943. Separated December 7, 1945. During the Battle of the Bulge, a bomb fell near his foxhole. Someone else had to dig him out and he suffered from a severe nervous condition for the remainder of his life.
