Selected by Franklin D. Roosevelt for a one year term prior to draft. Entered service July 1941. He helped establish the anti-aircraft defense along the waterfront and put the area from San Francisco to Los Angeles on 'blackout.' Served in Army Intelligence. Discharged, September 1944 from Fort Sheridan, Illinois.
