Participated in the invasion of North Africa in 1942, commanded Armed reconnaissance Squadron. Participated in the Battle of Kasserine Pass which resulted in the defeat of Field Marshal Rommel. Awards include the Silver Star, Air Medal, Legion of Merit; flew air support during the Battle of the Bulge, 1945 in Germany. Trained combat crews for both European and Far East Theatres, 1943 to 1945. Member of board which reorganized reconnaissance aviation which resulted in equipping entire fleet with 51 air crafts. Was awarded the Second Legion of Merit.
