Activity During WWII

Volunteered April 21, 1943 at age 17. Discharged March 6, 1946. Served on the USS Hamul, Destroyer Tender, for 31 months in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. The activities of the USS Hamul are highlighted by the brilliant record of the ship in the forward areas during the Pacific campaigns at Saipan, Ulithi and especially at Kerama Retto and Okinawa. USS Hamul distinguished herself with an excellent record of service to the Fleet and salvage of damaged destroyers which had been damaged by kamikaze attacks. USS Hamul earned a battle star for participation in the Okinawa campaign, Navy Occupation Service Medal, Pacific, for the period of September 2, 1945 to February 10, 1946.
