Activity During WWII

Served from June 1942 through March 1948. Served aboard the USS LST 446 as a shipfitter and participated in the battles of Tulagi, Guadalcanal and Bougainville in the Solomon Islands. Awarded a letter of commendation for going aboard a burning ship and helped to rescue personnel from that ship. Later in 1947, he received a Navy Unit Commendation medal for services beyond the call of duty. Received the American Area Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.
