Met his wife while working the graveyard shift as riveter for MacDonald Douglas Aircraft in 1942. Entered the Army and served under General Patton. Fought in Naples, Italy, Northern France and Germany. Just prior to his company crossing the Rhine he was hospitalized for frost bitten feet and his tour of duty changed. His knowledge of music served him and others and he was later assigned to the Army Band.
