Activity During WWII

Had 1 1/2 years of nurse's training but quit nursing when war began. Helped at the railroad in Pitcairn, Pennsylvania when all men were called to duty. Unloaded sacks of cement and any metal that came in. Joined the WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) stationed in Camp Shoemaker, California. Worked in an ear, nose, throat operating room. Had charge of 40 men, all sick in one ward. As more WAVES came in, she was in charge of wives and babies of veterans.
